Interview Touch Down

Get the job you want during a recession by knowing what the interviewer is looking for

Chances are you, someone in your family or someone you know has been laid off in the last 3 months. Landing a job is not going to be easy because many people will be looking for jobs but also because so few companies are hiring.

touch-downWhat are the chances of you finding a job during the recession? Good to better than good if you plan strategically. Part of that strategic plan is preparing for the interview so you can have the best one possible. This can be accomplished much easier if you know what the interviewer is looking for.

(1) Competence – Can you provide evidence that you can do the job? In other words what skills, education, and experience can you talk about and what examples can you provide that proves what value you can bring to the table?

(2) Compatibility – Can you do the job effectively within the company’s culture? Will you be able to follow their policies—even the unwritten ones? How well will you fit in with other employees, supervisors and customers? Be prepared to speak to this.

(3) Chemistry – Are you likeable? Do you build warm rapport easily and quickly? And does it come through in your body language, your word choices, your actions. Think of it as a blind date. Are all the right things in place to make you want to go out on a second date?

What was your most recent interview experience like? How well did you score in the 3 C’s?
